i generally have a pretty safe 5 mile bike ride home from work but tonight was rather testy. on valencia street at 15th st i was almost attacked. needless to say that i got away safely by speeding up and moving into the car lane whilst yelling stop and holding my u-lock as a defense weapon against the attacker. i just have never had an experience like that before and i'm wondering if other bicycling commuting women in the city or anywhere else has had a similar experience? and how do you defend yourself from such an attack while on bike?
oh my god you poor thing! what happend!!! i am glad you got a away safely. i haven't had anything happen to me yet and have always thought it since i bike home alone all the time.the mister got peppered sprayed on the way home one night...a car just pulled up next to him while riding his bike, sprayed him 3 times and then slowly drove off! so crazy! maybe get pepper spray..that way you don't have to be super close to the perp...or i have a long chain i use to lock up my bike..i always think that would be my weapon to protect myself...sometimes it is scary being a women while riding a bike but we must keep trucking...big hug!!
poor mister! how did he handle that?! it's so dangerous riding in the city already. usually at night i don't have to worry since there are so many cyclist on valencia st but this time i was alone. if there were others they would have come to my defense sense cyclists in the city are always ready to help and defend a fellow cyclist. i just hope that this brings awareness of women's safety and self defense whilst cycling. pepper spray is probably a good bet because although knocking out an attacker with a u-lock is idealistic, pepper spray is a tool that doesn't require physical contact. either way, i will keep trucking, thank you dear!
he is fine but he was really upset about it because there was no reason for the attack...just a bunch of stupid guys being a**holes! i think i may also get some pepper spray...always better to be safe then sorry. i am so glad that nothing worse happened to you <3
