Fall Destinations By Bike In New England

10/28/2015

New England in the fall is colored with hues and tones of all colors. The air is cool, crips and perfect for strapping on a helmet and pedaling down a scenic road full of yellows, reds, and oranges. To get you adventuring through some of the leafiest routes before the season is over, I picked some of my favorite fall foliage viewing routes in the Northeast. My experience in these regions are a few day trips at best. Either way, rides through the Northeast are a necessary experience for all who love fall and biking.

Cap Cod Rail Trail
A leisurely 25 mile spin down a mostly flat, paved, rail to trail in Massachusettes that will take you along a tree lined journey through picturesque small towns, past freshwater lakes and along the National Seashore.

Erie Canalway Trail
This is a 365 mile of road trail that runs along historic waterways that snake through the countryside between Albany and Buffalo in upstate New York. You'll ride along blazing trees with color the whole way and find perfect views for a picnic.

White Mountain National Forest/Kancamagus Pass
The White Mountains of New Hampshire provide the quintessential New England leap peeping experience. Drivers flock to scenic Kancamagus Highway during fall, so if you're doing it by bike set out early morning on a weekday. Other wise, take the dirt trails in the national forest for a traffic free ride with lovely views.

Northern Vermont
My favorite quintessential New England biking experience of all. In the region of Stowe, leads a high end cycling tour of the states natural wonders. Fall here is just breathless and touring here during the season is a spectacular ride.
